Euro Winner TrendsThree of the home nations have won the European Championships over thirteen tournaments. That is a decent return and means the host nations should be given extra consideration. The home advantage is not quite as strong as in the World Cup where countries are playing outside of their continent which places them at a further disadvantage.
Euro Championship HostsAt Euro 2012 the hosts are Poland and Ukraine, two sides who would be in the bottom half of the betting in most international tournaments. Both should be able to proceed from the groups and Ukraine in particular should be capable of shaking up a few of the so called bigger nations.
World Champions at the Euro ChampionshipOnly France in 2000 won the European Championships as World Champions. That is the only time even a World Cup finalist has gone on to win the European Championships two years later. The winners and runners up of the 2010 World cup should be opposed according to this stat.
2012 Euro Championship WinnerThe likes of Italy and France are not the forces they once were and that same sentiment applies to Germany in some respects who are probably looking at a semi final place at best. That rules out half the favourites and leaves us with the likes of Spain, England, Portugal and Holland. Portugal don't quite have the strength in depth and Holland often flatter to deceive so stick with Spain and England to make Euro 2012 a profitable one. Both have a good mix of youth and experience and have players of very high quality in all of the key positions.
