Euro 2008 Finalists Odds and Betting

This initially looks an impossible market to call as picking the winner is often hard enough but it is actually easier than it looks.

Euro 2008 Draw

The draw at Euro 08 is preset so you can plot the route to the final of each team. Most groups have a fairly clear favourite to win the respective group and you can take the two most likely teams to qualify as runners up to create the probably quarter finals.

Euro 2008 Quarter Finals

It would be a minor surprise if Portugal, Germany, Italy and Spain didn’t win their groups. That would make the quarter finals look something like this:

Portugal v Austria/Croatia/Poland

Germany v Switzerland/Czech Republic

Italy v Sweden/Greece

Spain v France/Holland

You would then expect at least the first three quarter finals to be fairly straight forward with Portugal, Germany and Italy progressing with relative comfort. That ony leaves the last of the quarter finals to be decided and that is likely to be Spain versus either France or Holland. By this time in the tournament we are likely to know if Spain have put their talents to good use and it is safer to presume they will have played like the very talented team that they are. With slight doubts about France and Holland this year Spain are the most likely to progress.

Euro 08 Semi Finals

If the quarter finals are as predicted then the semi final draw will be:

Portugal v Germany

Italy v Spain

Euro 2008 Final

Both of these games look tough to call. Germany did well at the 2006 World cup but they may have been flattered by that performance due to having home advantage. Portugal look a side that is maturing well and with players such as Cristiano Ronaldo the game could be won by an individual moment of brilliance. This puts Portugal through to the final but who will they face?

Italy as usual will look to defend well and get a goal somewhere along the way. This tactic has always worked well for them but may cause trouble against Spain who have a wealth of talent at their disposal. Cesc Fabregas is well capable of opening up the Italy defence and with Fernando Torres and David Villa to aim for Spain may be able to win this.

The final therefore is Portugal v Spain.

At this stage your bet has already come in so you can relax and enjoy the final with the money already in the bank.
