Group C looks to have too much defensive quality to be anywhere near the group with the most goals and with Portugal, Germany and Spain looking to have the best chance of racking up some goals it looks best to concentrate on Groups A, B and D.
Group A Goals
Portugal are obvious goalscorers in Group A but what about the other teams? Czech Republic have some decent attacking options in Jan Koller and Milan Baros and they are capable of getting goals. Switzerland don’t have too much up front so they might only contribute one or two goals to proceedings and Turkey will probably struggle to get more than two. This group will probably have between 12 and 14 goals.
Group B Goals
In Group B it’s not hard to see Germany getting around 7 goals in group stage alone. Games against Austria and Poland are likely to give them plenty of opportunities. Croatia are missing main goal threat Eduardo Da Silva but still have goals in them and they could take the group goals up to 11 or 12. That leaves Austria and Poland, Austria in particular look weak in attack and Poland are capable of getting goals but rely on Euzebiusz Smolarek a bit too much. They might get 4 between them which would put Group B goals around the 15 or 16 mark.
Group D Goals
Finally, Group D. Spain have plenty of attacking talent and could score up to 7 or 8 goals. Sweden also have decent attacking options with Ibrahimovic and Larsson up front but they are probably looking at 4 goals at best. Greece have never been a side to bang the goals in and with three 1-0 wins getting them through the knockout stages four years ago they might only be able to score 3 goals in the group. That leaves Russia who don’t look to have too much attacking talent and struggle when not playing at home so they will probably only get 1 or 2 goals. This group should have a similar amount of goals as Group B, that is around 15 goals.
The Verdict
Group B is the most likely to yield most goals but Group D shouldn’t be too far behind. At the prices a decent bet can be had on Group B but it may also be worth having a small saver on Group D to cover your stake. These bets should ensure a fairly risk free bet.
