Ukraine

It may surprise many considering some of the talent that Ukraine have had in recent years, most notably their strike partnership of Rebrov and Shevchenko, but Ukraine have never played in the European Championships as an independent nation and this will be their first taste of the tournament.

Ukraine have qualified for Euro 2012 courtest of being joint hosts of the tournament and will therefore enjoy home advantage in their macthes. They will hope that is enough to get them through the group stage and that would probably represent a great achievement on their European Championships debut.

Best Bets On Ukraine At Euro 2012

Ukraine To Be Eliminated At The Group Stage

Ukraine will be boosted by home advantage here but the fact that they have never qualified for a European Championships before speaks volumes about how good they are as a team. Despite a few very good players, they don't match up with the better teams in the tournament and with both England and France in their group they look up against it so should go the same way as joint hosts of Euro 2008, Austria and Switzerland, by being eliminated at the group stage.

Ukraine To Finish Bottom Of Group D

If Ukraine aren't going to qualify Group D then there are only two positions they can fill, third or bottom. They do have home advantage but home advantage saw Switzerland and Austria finish joint bottom of their respective groups four years ago. Ukraine haven't been that great even at home recently, in 2011 they lost home friendlies against Uruguay, Italy and crucially Group D opponents France and Sweden and if they lose those two games again they are very likely to finish bottom.

Ukraine To Gain One Point In Group D

Ukraine may be tipped to have a poor Euro 2012 but no host or co host has ever finished the European Championships without picking up at least a point at the European Championships and Ukraine can continue that tradition. At the last four European Championships sixteeen teams have finished bottom of their groups and half of those have picked up just the one point making that a good bet for Ukraine's haul.

Ukraine Qualified for Euro 2012 automatically as hosts.

Ukraine Recent European Championships Performances

Year Team Performance
2008 Did Not Qualify
2004 Did Not Qualify
2000 Did Not Qualify
1996 Did Not Qualify

Ukraine have not qualified for any of the recent European Championships but are automatic qualifiers for Euro 2012 as a result of being the hosts. The hosts can often perform better than expected because of home advantage but the fact that Ukraine haven't even been qualifying for these tournaments is a worry about their chances against the better teams in the finals
